Our teenagers classes are treated as young adults they take responsibility for their own development and practice with guidance from our training Martial Arts coaches.

Martial Arts for Teenagers

We have an outstanding group of young adults from across Basingstoke and the surrounding areas learning Martial Arts for teenagers. Training together in Karate, Judo, Kung Fu, Judo or Kickboxing with qualified international coaches helps them to achieve their goals .

Urban Warriors is the name given to our age specific martial arts class for students aged between 10 – 14. These classes are designed to be fun, lively, friendly and innovative, offering many opportunities to try new things from grappling to flying kicks.

As an Urban Warrior your classes are designed to teach you all you need to know about Martial Arts. This will set you on the road to becoming a senior Black Belt with the resulting depth of knowledge. In your classes we help to develop a broad base of skills in kickboxing, close range sparring, throwing and groundwork. This leads to developing speed, relaxation and power before then moving onto, at a more advanced level, the softer arts. Internal Chinese Martial Arts with Tai Chi and deeper aspects of Karate and Kung Fu helping to round out your skills and techniques.

Changes in training due to age and maturity

Because you are more mature both physically and mentally than the Young Legends, we also teach more demanding aspects. This includes pressure points, joint locks and pragmatic appropriate self defence and weapons awareness. We also help you to learn about the principles and theory behind your practice, as you rise in ability this knowledge is vital to reach the highest elite levels. The classes are designed from a practical sports science perspective utilising knowledge around

  1. Biomechanics.
  2. Nutrition.
  3. Skill acquisition
  4. Physiology.
  5. Strength and Conditioning.
  6. How to deal with somatic and cognitive anxiety and stress.

Life Skills

At this stage student’s physical skills are advanced and we will continue to develop these, enabling students to reach the peak of their abilities. In addition the teenagers and young adults will, through their practise with us, develop their abilities in these areas:-

  1. Goal Setting
  2. Positive Attitude
  3. Self Confidence
  4. Commitment
  5. Leadership
  6. Smart decision making

Black belt attitude

Being an Urban Warrior is about far more than just turning up at your classes each week. It’s about learning to have a ‘black belt attitude’, even from your very first lesson. That doesn’t mean that you get to wear a black belt immediately, however through working hard, you will earn one in time. Rather it’s about trying as hard as you can, to be the best version of you that you can be. This is relevant not just for your martial arts moves but also in your behaviour and attitude at the dojo, at home and at school.

Remember, learning Martial Arts with us can save your life, because it’s really important to be able to defend yourself. It’s at this age that you are more likely to need those skills than at any other time in your life. We will teach you how to protect yourself  in a fight, but more importantly we will teach you how to safely avoid fighting.

Within this group we also run a successful Junior Leaders program. Participants are a special team of role models showing the younger and less experienced students the skills they can develop. It is a great example of the benefits of hard work and consistent effort, ultimately this leads to UK Coaching recognised coaching qualifications.

Entry to this program is by invitation only and includes additional in depth technical tuition plus regular personal development. Additionally Junior coaches learn leadership skills such as public speaking, effective communication, leading by example and team-working. This program leads to formal Sport England NGB recognised coaching qualifications.
