I have been trying to write a blog about my Martial Arts as an introduction for you all and I am really struggling.
I have so much I would like to tell you about how much my Martial Arts means to me, what it has done for both myself and my son and how it has taken over my life, but on each attempt I have struggled. I don’t talk about myself generally. I am a private person.
I started to write about how I ended up taking my first class but decided it wouldn’t be of interest to you. I started to write about the challenges of competitive karate as a wheelchair user and the battles and successes that have come about and the successful introduction of adapted karate on a world-wide stage, including my European and World titles but it sounded braggy and therefore makes me uncomfortable.
I wrote all about adapting Martial Arts to a seated version and the triumphs and struggles encountered during that process but wasn’t sure you would want to know. I started talking about the technical aspects that I will introduce to you, but it read like a list. The difference between the karate I can teach you and the Tai Chi became too textbook like.
So, I decided not to write a blog at all.
Instead, I’m going to upload the videos to teach you bit by bit and ask you to please ask questions, as many questions as you like about whatever you like on a Martial Arts theme. I may not have all your answers straight away but I have the privilege of being part of an awesome Martial Arts team, that has taught me all I know, that I can go to for information and advice and which blows me away on a daily basis.
Have a go at what I am putting out there and please, please upload your photo’s and videos so we can celebrate your successes, track you progress and give you feedback.
This Wheelchair Martial Arts group is one of a kind, it is as new to me as it is to you. Although I teach every day, I teach Able Bodied Martial Artists. However, I am now lucky enough to be able to run this class and hope that once normality returns we can all get into the Dojo/Kwoon and grow Paraplegic Martial Arts as a sport. There IS a place for this and I hope to take you all as far as you can go. Let’s take this opportunity, have fun, learn and develop and take the sport by storm. The sky is the limit and I am extremely excited.
Looks like I just wrote the blog…
